Gated lake communities

Lake homes are wood-framed with a fireplace in the great room. Heat check, then lag bolts into studs or anchors into solid masonry. TVs over fireplaces.

Bedrooms and bonus rooms get cables inside the wall ($69) so nothing runs across the floor. Hiding cables, drywall guide.

Decks and porches on the lake

Covered decks and screened porches facing the lake get outdoor-rated TVs, stainless hardware and a sealed cable entry. Outdoor TVs.

We set the height from your chair, not the ceiling. Ideal TV height.

What this means for your TV wall

47.9% of homes went up between 1980 and 1999, and 94.4% are detached houses, so most TV walls we meet are drywall on wood studs; in the post-2000 builds about 1 in 5 walls turn out framed 24 inches on center. The Census also shows 0.0% heated mainly by utility gas, so a great-room fireplace usually runs on propane, wood or an electric insert. Each gets a 20-minute burn at full output before we choose the TV height.

Which side of the gate you live on

Seven Lakes North wraps the chain of lakes, and its listings go back to 1973, so the oldest walls in the community are here: brick hearths and outlets placed for console TVs. In houses painted before 1978 we drill only the anchor and cable holes, with a dust shroud, and never sand. Seven Lakes South lines its 18-hole course and has no recreational lakes, so most requests are for back-porch TVs facing the fairway. Seven Lakes West grew up around Beacon Ridge, a Gene Hamm course opened in 1989, and custom homes are still going up there. If yours is only framed, invite us before the drywall: we mark the TV center from your seats, your electrician sets the outlet, and we show the builder where blocking and a cable conduit belong. Start with the height tool, then send a request.

Porch and lake-deck TVs

Most outdoor TVs we hang here face water or a fairway from under a porch roof. Before anything goes up we compare the set's temperature and humidity ratings with where it will live; an indoor TV on a screened porch is a winter-storage job, not a mount-and-forget one. On a covered deck the screen sits at least 3 feet in from the open side, the cable entry is sealed and the wire leaves a drip loop. A full-motion arm ($69) swings the picture from the dock chairs back to the table. In spring the yellow pine pollen settles on screens and vents, and we show you how to clear it. July brings the most lightning in this part of the state, so we suggest a surge protector. The same crew handles lanais in Pinehurst; see our outdoor TV service.

TV mounting in Seven Lakes, NC: common questions

Do you come to Seven Lakes with no travel fee?
Yes. Seven Lakes North, South and West are inside our Cary service area and cost the same as Cary.
How do you get through the gate?
Add the gate instructions or a guest pass when you book, and we let you know when the technician is on the way.
How much does TV mounting cost in Seven Lakes?
$119 up to 60 inches, $129 up to 85 inches and $69 to hide the cables inside the wall.
Can you mount a TV on our lake deck?
Yes, an outdoor-rated TV with stainless hardware and a sealed cable entry, under a solid roof.
How soon can you come to Seven Lakes?
Often the same day; booking a day ahead gives the widest choice of times.
Does our HOA need to approve a porch TV?
Inside the house, usually not. For a screened porch or deck, check first: North and South answer to one association and Seven Lakes West to its own, and their exterior rules differ. Send us the approval and we book.
Can a TV go above our propane fireplace?
Usually. We run it at full output for 20 minutes and read the wall where the TV's bottom edge will sit. Too hot, and the TV goes higher on a tilting mount ($49) or beside it. On stacked stone, which is veneer, we anchor into the framing behind.
Can you take TVs down before we sell?
Yes. We remove the TV and mount, bag the hardware, fill the holes and leave the wall ready for paint ($49). If your next home is inside our area, we can hang the same TV there too. Book it before the listing photos.
