I'm Michael. This is how TV Mount Q started.

There was no plan and no company. In 2016 I was new to Miami, working whatever jobs I could find, and on weekends I hung TVs for neighbors — mostly because I owned a drill and a level and didn't mind being the one who got called. I charged too little, drove too far and learned something on every single visit.

The first year ran on word of mouth. A neighbor told a coworker, the coworker told her building manager, and suddenly I was answering the phone between jobs I hadn't finished yet. I made every mistake a one-man business can make: booked two customers for the same hour, quoted a job so low I went home with less than I'd spent on gas, promised “this afternoon” and arrived after dark. Each of those turned into a rule I still keep — a clear price before anyone gets in the van, a time window we actually hit, and leaving the room cleaner than we found it.

The first person I hired was a friend who could hold the other end of an 85-inch TV. The second van came two years later. Then a real phone line, an online calculator so people didn't have to wait for a callback, and crews in Los Angeles, Las Vegas, Dallas and the rest — each one trained the way I was trained: by doing the work next to someone who cared. Today we've put 6,300+ TVs on the wall. I still find that number a little hard to believe when I remember the first one.

I'm still on a ladder most weeks. Partly because I train every new installer myself, and partly because I never stopped liking the job: you walk into someone's home, and an hour later the room looks the way they pictured it.
