MAK Historic District bungalow

Decatur is two towns on one map: century-old bungalows and Tudors in Winnona Park and the MAK district, and newer flats and townhomes near the Square. Mykola's crew covers both, often the same day, knowing which walls need a slow drill and which need a lease-friendly plan.
TV mounting in Decatur is flat-rate: $119 up to 60", $129 for 61–85" and from $179 for 86" and larger, plus $40 for each additional TV. Mounts from $39, cables hidden in a raceway for $39 or inside the wall for $69. No travel fee and no surcharge for stone or plaster.
Craftsman bungalows have plaster over wood lath, picture rails, original trim and irregular stud spacing. We mark the surface, drill slowly with the hammer off and anchor into the studs behind the lath; a wide mount bridges studs that don't match the TV. Mounts for plaster walls.
Renovated homes often combine new drywall in kitchen additions with original plaster in the front rooms. We check each wall and choose anchors to match. Studs behind plaster.
Running cables inside a plaster wall means cutting holes in something that's hard to patch invisibly. Many Decatur owners prefer a slim raceway painted to the wall color ($39) that follows the trim lines. Raceway guide.
The front room of a bungalow is small and full of windows. A Samsung Frame over the fireplace keeps it looking like a living room, not a TV room. Frame TVs.
10,684 homes and about 24,518 residents. The age and type of a home decide what is behind the drywall, so we check this before we quote.

Decatur's housing is split down the middle. 41.6% of homes were built before 1960, so plaster on wood lath, crawl spaces and original fireplaces are routine for us. Another 29.2% sit in buildings of 20 or more units, mostly in newer blocks near the Square, where drywall and lease rules shape the job. And with 50.7% of homes heated mainly by utility gas, we scan for a gas line before drilling any fireplace TV wall.
Decatur's historic districts follow different rules. The MAK Historic District was the city's first locally designated district, and under Section 5.2.3 of the city's UDO a material change there needs a Certificate of Appropriateness before any building permit. Winnona Park, built in 1923 and home of Columbia Theological Seminary, is on the National Register but carries no local designation. Inside the house, none of this touches a TV: Georgia's preservation statute reviews exterior features, not living-room walls. The porch is where to pause. If a screen would show from the sidewalk, call the city's preservation staff first; the commission usually meets the third Tuesday, with applications due 15 days ahead. On the inside wall of a rear porch, Mykola mounts an outdoor TV with stainless bolts, a tested GFCI outlet and drip loops on each cable.

Not every Decatur TV goes on plaster. Nearly a quarter of the city's homes were built in 2010 or later, many of them flats and townhomes near the Square; Trinity Walk put 121 into six three-story buildings by Trinity Place in 2017. Walls here are drywall, and the lease or the association writes the rules. When opening a wall is off the table, Mykola anchors into the studs and runs a paintable raceway from the outlet to the TV, colored to the wall; at move-out it lifts off, leaving a few small holes to fill. In a townhome you own, a listed in-wall power kit ($69) gives the cleaner look. Either way, the TV's power cord never travels inside the wall. Townhome family rooms with a gas fireplace get the same 15-minute heat test as any bungalow mantel. More renter options.
A few jobs from the last months — the kind of walls and setups we see here most.

Thick plaster would not seat a recessed box, so Mykola used a low-voltage pass-through plate and fished the HDMI into the crawl space; power stayed on the outlet.

No wall opening under the lease, so the cords run in a painted raceway that lifts off at move-out.

One price list for all of Metro Atlanta — the wall type does not change the price, and neither does the drive. Stacked stone, basement concrete and intown plaster are billed exactly like drywall.

“I was nervous about our old plaster walls. Mykola was careful and patient, found the studs and there is not a hairline crack anywhere. Would absolutely use again.”
