Franklin-Rosemary historic house
The only cable entry faced the street, so Danylo reused it and fished the run up an interior wall. Old paint: anchor holes only, with a dust shroud.

Chapel Hill homes split almost evenly between owners and renters: Franklin-Rosemary houses with old plaster, wooded 1980s streets, Meadowmont great rooms and leased duplexes a short walk from class. Danylo and our Durham crew handle all of it, usually same-day, at a flat price you see before booking.
TV mounting in Chapel Hill is flat-rate: $119 up to 60", $129 for 61–85" and from $179 for 86" and larger, plus $40 for each additional TV. Mounts from $39, cables hidden in a raceway for $39 or inside the wall for $69. No travel fee and no surcharge for brick, stone or plaster.
Historic houses near campus have plaster over lath. We confirm each stud with a test hole, drill slowly and patch before we leave. Studs behind plaster.
Meadowmont and Southern Village homes are drywall on wood studs. Lag bolts into two studs, cables inside the wall ($69). Hiding cables.
UNC leases get studs only and a removable raceway ($39); we can come back at move-out to take the TV down and patch. Renter-friendly cables, mounting in an apartment.
A Samsung Frame flush on the wall shows art instead of a black screen — a good fit for a historic room. Frame TVs.
23,581 homes and about 61,607 residents. The age and type of a home decide what is behind the drywall, so we check this before we quote.
47% owner-occupied · 53% rented
U.S. Census Bureau, American Community Survey 2020–2024 5-year estimates: year built, units in structure, tenure.
More than half of Chapel Hill homes are rented (52.6%), so many visits begin with what the lease allows rather than what the wall can hold. The median home dates from 1988, and 32.5% went up between 1980 and 1999: wood studs behind drywall, often with a gas fireplace on the family-room wall. Away from campus, that fireplace wall is usually the one we think hardest about, and we test its heat before anything goes up.
Chapel Hill has three local historic districts, and Franklin-Rosemary, created by Town Council in 1976, is where most of our district visits land. Its rules look at the outside of a house. A TV on a parlor wall is interior work with no review, but a porch screen, a bracket on a front column or conduit across the siding can be an exterior change needing a Certificate of Appropriateness. Town staff can approve some minor work; larger changes go to the Historic District Commission, with applications due 30 days before its meeting, and unapproved work can be penalized at twice the application fee. That is why we reuse existing cable entries, keep porch screens out of street view where we can, and flag anything that needs the town's sign-off before you book a visit.

Southern Village grew up around its village green in the 1990s, and Meadowmont clusters homes near a village center of shops and restaurants. Many of these houses put a gas fireplace on the main TV wall under a tall ceiling. We never skip the heat check: the fireplace runs flat out for 20 minutes while we read the surface where the TV's bottom edge will hang. If it reads hot, the screen moves higher on a tilt or beside the firebox; our height tool shows what still feels comfortable from the sofa. Tall rooms change the sound too: an Atmos bar bounces its up-firing channels off the ceiling, and a lofty one blunts that, so rear speakers often matter more. A soundbar added on the same visit is $69. Our fireplace TV service covers the rest.
A few jobs from the last months — the kind of walls and setups we see here most.

The Atmos bar went on the TV mount; Danylo explained what the tall ceiling does to up-firing sound. A second technician helped lift the screen.

The heat check ran too hot at the first mark, so the screen went higher on a tilting mount until the reading passed.

One price list for Raleigh, Durham, Cary, Chapel Hill and out to Pinehurst and Fayetteville — the wall type does not change the price, and neither does the drive. Oakwood plaster, stacked-stone fireplaces and downtown concrete are billed exactly like drywall.
