TV Mounting in McKinney, TX

McKinney is two towns: the brick-and-plaster blocks of the Historic Overlay between US 75 and SH 5, and the young subdivisions pushing north toward Trinity Falls, Painted Tree and Honey Creek. Andrii's Collin County crew works both, often same-day, and quotes a flat price before the first hole.

TV mounting in McKinney is flat-rate: $119 up to 60", $129 for 61–85" and from $179 for 86" and larger, plus $40 for each additional TV. Mounts from $39, cables hidden in a raceway for $39 or inside the wall for $69. No travel fee and no surcharge for stone or brick.

Historic downtown houses and McKinney's master-planned communities

Historic homes near the square have plaster over lath and old-growth studs. We find the studs with test holes, drill with the hammer off and use a wide mount or backer when the framing doesn't line up. Brick storefronts take sleeve anchors in the brick face, never the mortar. Brick and stone.

Stonebridge Ranch and Craig Ranch homes are brick-and-stone exteriors with drywall on wood studs inside, stone fireplaces and upstairs game rooms. Two studs, lag bolts and cables inside the wall ($69) is the usual job; on stone, anchors go through the veneer into framing.

Tucker Hill and new traditional homes

Tucker Hill's new traditional houses have tall ceilings and deep window trim — the TV often goes on an interior wall away from the windows. We plan cable routes through the attic to an equipment cabinet and keep all hardware out of the millwork.

Restaurants and bars on the square

Downtown businesses want screens that look intentional against old brick. We mount them level, route cables along the brick in a slim raceway and schedule before opening.

Homes in McKinney by the numbers

77,617 homes and about 210,600 residents. The age and type of a home decide what is behind the drywall, so we check this before we quote.

What this means for your TV wall

McKinney's median home was built in 2007, and 39.6% of housing went up in 2010 or later, so most living rooms we walk into have drywall on wood studs, a builder outlet or low-voltage box, and a gas fireplace on the family-room wall. The rare exception is the 3.5% built before 1960, clustered near the square, where plaster over lath, old-growth framing and original brick change both the tools and the timing of a visit.

North McKinney move-ins: Trinity Falls, Painted Tree and Honey Creek

Trinity Falls is planned for more than 5,200 homes from seven builders, and Painted Tree for roughly 3,800 on about 1,100 acres. New single-family permits in the city rose nearly 25% from 2023 to 2024, led by those subdivisions and Honey Creek, so many of our McKinney calls come in the first weeks after a closing. Often the builder placed the TV box where the floor plan put a couch, not where yours landed. Before drilling, Andrii sits where you will watch, checks the sightline with our height calculator, then decides whether the factory box works or a new in-wall kit goes exactly behind the screen. About 1 in 3 concealment jobs in Collin County send the cables through the attic to an equipment closet or shelf. Mention yours when you book a hidden-cable install.

Inside the Historic Overlay: plaster, brick and what the street sees

McKinney's 2023 survey reviewed more than 6,200 properties in a 4.9-square-mile area between US 75 and Airport Drive and identified 3,338 historic resources. Within the overlay, a certificate of appropriateness concerns alterations seen from the public right of way. A living-room TV is not one of them; a porch screen facing the sidewalk could be, so check with the city before an outdoor mount. Andrii cuts one small test opening to read the plaster and lath before promising a recessed box, and carries a wide plate for plaster walls when studs fall off-center. An original fireplace gets a burn test and heat reading before anything is marked. Prefer not to open old plaster? A paintable raceway ($39) carries the HDMI along the trim. The TV's power cord never shares that raceway or runs inside the wall; for in-wall power we fit a listed in-wall power kit.

Stonebridge Ranch two-story

  • 75-inch
  • stone veneer on a gas fireplace chase
  • tilting

A warm reading above the mantel moved the TV 4 inches higher with about 10 degrees of tilt, anchored through the veneer into chase framing.

1910s house near the square

  • 55-inch
  • plaster over lath
  • fixed

A test opening came first, then a recessed box with longer screws; nothing was visible from the street, so overlay review never applied.

Trinity Falls new build

  • 65-inch
  • drywall on wood studs
  • full-motion

The builder's box sat beside the sectional, not facing it; Andrii fitted a listed in-wall power kit behind the screen and capped the old box.

On-site notes from McKinney jobs

  • Parking around the square is easier before 11am.
  • Historic district rules cover exteriors, not interior TVs.
  • New communities east of 75 have builder pre-wire in most family rooms.

TV mounting in McKinney, TX: common questions

Can you mount a TV in a historic McKinney house?
Yes — studs found behind the plaster, careful drilling, plaster at the drywall price.
Do you install TVs in downtown McKinney restaurants?
Yes, anchored into brick with cables in a slim raceway, before business hours.
How much does TV mounting cost in McKinney?
$119 up to 60 inches, $129 up to 85 inches, no travel fee.
Do you work in Stonebridge Ranch and Craig Ranch?
Every week — brick-and-stone homes with drywall on wood studs, so two studs, lag bolts and cables inside the wall for $69.
Can a TV go over an original fireplace in a downtown McKinney house?
Often, after a heat check. Old brick fireplaces take sleeve anchors in the brick face; if the mantel is decorative wood, we keep screws out of it.
Do I need historic approval for an indoor TV?
Usually not. The Historic Overlay's certificate of appropriateness covers only changes visible from the public street, and a living-room screen is not one. A new outlet behind the TV is a licensed electrician's job and may need a city permit.
Does a Stonebridge Ranch HOA care about patio TVs?
Stonebridge Ranch publishes Modification Design Guidelines, and about 1 in 3 of our outdoor jobs in McKinney, Frisco and Prosper begin with HOA exterior rules. Get the plan approved first; then we mount with stainless hardware and seal the cable entry.
How fast can you reach a north McKinney home?
Andrii's crew is based in Collin County, so same-day visits are common when you book in the morning. Have the TV and furniture in place; installing on a tilting mount runs $49, and a drywall job takes about an hour.
