Victorian homes, family neighborhoods and race-day rooms

Union Street Victorians have plaster over lath and tall ceilings. We confirm each stud with a test hole, drill slowly and patch as we go. Studs behind plaster.

Afton Village and Moss Creek homes are wood studs and drywall with gas fireplaces. Lag bolts into two studs, cables inside the wall ($69). Hiding cables.

Man caves and race-day rooms

Garages and bonus rooms become the place to watch the race. We mount 75- to 98-inch screens on heavy-duty mounts, with a second technician for the lift. 85-inch TVs.

Patios for the long weekend

Covered patios get an outdoor-rated TV with stainless hardware and a sealed cable entry, mounted under the roof and out of the afternoon sun. Outdoor TVs.

What this means for your TV wall

Concord is mostly a young suburb wrapped around an old mill town. The median home was built in 1998 and 24.5% of units went up in 2010 or later, so most walls we open west of downtown are drywall on wood studs. Still, 15.0% of homes predate 1960, and around Union Street and Edgewood that means plaster over lath and a slower, test-hole approach. 72.3% are detached houses and 46.2% heat mainly with utility gas, which is why so many of our jobs here are multi-room visits with a gas fireplace in the family room.

Where Concord's TV walls differ

Concord doubled in size after 1990 as it annexed west toward Charlotte, and that growth shows in what we drill into. A 2009 county planning letter lays out The Mills at Rocky River at about 531 acres and 1,200 planned homes, and townhomes there are still going up. Afton Village was built as a walkable town-center neighborhood, while downtown keeps its mill-era bones, with breweries in the old Gibson mill.

Planning a TV wall in a Concord home

Start with the room you actually watch in. In the newer neighborhoods that is usually a family room with a gas fireplace and a bonus room upstairs; we run a burn test before choosing the height, and our height calculator helps you picture it first. For hidden cables, the TV's power cord never goes inside the wall by itself: we use a listed in-wall power kit, explained in our guide to hiding TV wires in the wall. Cables inside the wall are $69 per TV.

Booking from Concord

Send screen sizes, rooms and whether the fireplace is gas or electric. Ihor also covers nearby Kannapolis and Harrisburg, and we schedule around race weekends so you are not stuck in Speedway traffic. Every town we serve is on the Charlotte region page.

From our Concord job log

A few jobs from the last months — the kind of walls and setups we see here most.

new townhome at The Mills at Rocky River

  • 65-inch
  • drywall on wood studs, shared wall
  • tilting

The best viewing wall was the party wall with the neighbor, so we kept the plate on two studs, skipped deep cutting and ran the cables in a paintable raceway down to the outlet.

Queen Anne house on North Union Street

  • 55-inch
  • plaster over lath
  • full-motion

Studs sat off the usual spacing, so we confirmed each one with small test holes behind where the plate would hide them, drilled slowly to keep the plaster from cracking and patched before leaving.

converted garage near the Speedway

  • 98-inch
  • drywall over wood studs
  • heavy-duty fixed

A second technician came for the lift; we located the header, set the screen high enough to clear the workbench and mounted a soundbar under it for race weekends.

On-site notes from Concord jobs

  • Race weekends at the Speedway jam the roads — we schedule around them.
  • Historic district rules cover exteriors only; indoor mounting needs no approval.
  • Fireplace TVs get a heat check before we drill. TVs over fireplaces.

TV mounting in Concord, NC: common questions

Can you mount a TV on plaster in a Union Street home?
Yes — slow drilling into confirmed studs, so the plaster doesn't crack, and test holes patched.
Do you mount really big TVs?
Yes, up to 98 inches on heavy-duty mounts, with a second technician for the lift.
How much does TV mounting cost in Concord?
$119 up to 60 inches, $129 up to 85 inches and from $179 for 86 inches and larger. No travel fee.
Can you put a TV in my garage?
Yes — on drywall, block or metal, with the right anchors and the cables in a raceway.
How fast can you get to Concord?
Usually the same day or the next; our University-area crew is close by.
We just moved into a new home at The Mills at Rocky River. Is it too early to mount a TV?
No. Once the walls are painted and you have keys, we can come. We scan for studs before drilling, check where the builder placed the outlet and cable box, and tell you if an in-wall power kit is needed. Most new-home visits in Concord cover two or three rooms in one trip.
Do I need Historic Preservation Commission approval for a TV in my Union Street house?
Not for a TV inside the home. Concord's commission reviews exterior changes in its historic districts, so a screen on a front porch visible from the street is the case to ask about. Indoors, we just plan the wall carefully around the plaster and trim.
Can you hang a TV in my garage for race days?
Yes. Garage walls are often finished drywall over studs, which works well for large screens. Screens 86 inches and up go out with a second technician, priced from $179, and we plan around the door track, shelves and workbench.
