Small-lot townhouse off Sherman Way

Van Nuys is changing block by block: small-lot homes along Sherman Way, new apartments planned near the Civic Center, and a G Line station being rebuilt above Van Nuys Boulevard. Whether you rent a new unit or a 1960s courtyard building, we can usually mount your TV the same day at a flat price.
TV mounting in Van Nuys is flat-rate: $119 up to 60", $129 for 61–85" and from $179 for 86" and larger, plus $40 for each additional TV. Mounts from $39, cables hidden in a raceway for $39 or inside the wall for $69. No travel fee and no surcharge for plaster or brick.
Tract homes from the 1950s are wood studs on 16-inch centers, drywall or a thin plaster skim, and open stud bays. Two studs and 5/16-inch lag bolts is the standard job, and cables go inside the wall with a power kit ($69) in owner-occupied homes.
Apartment buildings over carports were retrofitted under LA's soft-story ordinance, so you'll see steel frames in the parking level — not in the units. Inside, walls are drywall on wood; the question is the lease. Small holes in two studs and a paintable raceway ($39) are the renter's best friends. Apartment TV mounting in LA.
Most Van Nuys leases allow small fasteners if they're patched at move-out. A slim fixed mount ($39) sits an inch off the wall and leaves four quarter-inch holes — less damage than a cheap no-stud kit that fails and tears out drywall. Best mounts for apartments.
Converted garages and dens are common here. Garage walls may be bare studs, drywall or block; we look first, and in hot garages mount high and away from the door.
19,643 homes and about 51,953 residents. The age and type of a home decide what is behind the drywall, so we check this before we quote.

With 59.4% of households renting and 33.6% of homes in buildings of 20 or more units, most TV walls here belong to a landlord, so the lease decides the plan. The housing is older than it looks: 42.2% was built before 1960. Those wood studs are easy to find, but the paint may predate 1978, so we keep openings small, never sand, and switch to a raceway when a cut would go past a minor patch.
Along Sherman Way, small-lot subdivisions fit several narrow homes onto lots that used to hold one, and developers have proposed five- to seven-story buildings near the Civic Center and the Metrolink station, from 33 units on Erwin Street to 124 apartments on Van Nuys Boulevard. Each brings its own TV-wall questions.
In a small-lot home, the best wall is often the one shared with the neighbor. It is often fire-rated, so we lag into its studs and keep boxes out of it. In a new mid-rise unit we confirm the stud type with a thin bit: steel studs need their own hardware, never plain lag bolts, as our metal stud guide explains. Upper floors mean stairs, and a 98-inch screen comes with two technicians. Most new units offer flat drywall and a well-placed outlet, so a tilting mount ($49) over the console often takes about an hour.

The G Line stop at Van Nuys Boulevard and Vesper Avenue has been closed since February 2025 while it is rebuilt as an elevated station, so expect cones and lane shifts. When you book, send the cross street, gate code and visitor parking; Kostiantyn plans the route around the work zone.
For renters, the lease shapes the job. If drilling is limited to the mount, we pick a bracket rated to carry a soundbar too. If the manager wants paperwork, the certificate of insurance goes out before the visit. Cables can ride in a painted raceway, but the TV's own power cord never goes inside the wall or into a raceway with them; power behind the screen means a listed in-wall power kit or an electrician's outlet. Only the TV mount was allowed, so Kostiantyn clipped the soundbar to the bracket, rated for both.

With the gas logs on high, the brick above the mantel read too warm; Kostiantyn mounted higher with tilt.
