California Heights Spanish revival

Long Beach is a city shaped by the 1933 earthquake: braced brick, bungalows that rode it out, towers that came later. We are often at your door the same day, check what the wall is made of first, and leave the TV level, pull-tested and wired out of sight.
TV mounting in Long Beach is flat-rate: $119 up to 60", $129 for 61–85" and from $179 for 86" and larger, plus $40 for each additional TV. Mounts from $39, cables hidden in a raceway for $39 or inside the wall for $69. No travel fee and no surcharge for plaster or brick.
California Heights, Bixby Knolls and Rose Park houses are wood frame with lath and plaster. Studs hide behind the lath, so we find them with test holes, drill with the hammer off and use a wide mount or a painted backer when the studs don't line up with the TV. Mounts for plaster.
Alamitos Beach and downtown mix retrofitted brick buildings, 1960s wood-frame apartments and concrete high-rises on Ocean Boulevard. Brick gets sleeve anchors in the brick face; towers get concrete anchors on shear walls and toggles on steel partitions, with the building's insurance and elevator requirements handled before the visit.
Canal-front patios and Belmont Shore backyards are made for an outdoor TV. Salt air means a weather-rated mount and stainless hardware, sealed anchors in the stucco and cables in outdoor conduit. Outdoor TVs in LA.
The 1950s ranches in Los Altos and around Cal State Long Beach are the easy walls: drywall on wood studs, open bays for an in-wall power kit ($69) and room for a big screen on the family-room wall.
181,477 homes and about 455,548 residents. The age and type of a home decide what is behind the drywall, so we check this before we quote.
41% owner-occupied · 59% rented
U.S. Census Bureau, American Community Survey 2020–2024 5-year estimates: year built, units in structure, tenure.
With a median year built of 1959 and 52.3% of homes built before 1960, a Long Beach TV wall is more often plaster, brick or old-growth studs than fresh drywall, so we plan extra time for finding framing and keeping dust down. Because 58.8% of households rent, many jobs start with a landlord's okay and end with a painted raceway that comes off cleanly at move-out. Older paint also keeps our wall openings small.
Long Beach has 18 historic districts, and many of our calls come from them. California Heights alone holds nearly 1,500 homes from the 1920s boom, most of them Spanish Colonial Revival; Rose Park is mostly Craftsman bungalows built between 1910 and 1922; Bluff Park is one block of ten matching courtyard homes from 1923.
The good news for a TV: interior work with no exterior change needs no historic review. A TV above the original hearth, with an in-wall power kit behind it, needs no city sign-off. Where we slow down is the brick itself. About 1 in 5 pre-war brick fireplaces we see has cracked or spalling brick right at TV height, so we choose the anchor spot by sound brick, not by the center line, and add a tilting mount ($49) so the picture still meets the sofa.

The 1933 earthquake did its worst damage to unreinforced brick, and today the city's Seismic Program asks owners of soft, weak or open-front buildings to file a screening form. Inside a retrofitted Alamitos Beach building, that history often means steel bracing behind the very wall you picked. We locate it first, and when a brace fills the bay, the cable run shifts sideways or moves into a raceway.
Our Long Beach numbers show the split: of 34 concealment jobs, 18 went in-wall and 16 used a painted raceway ($39), which renters can usually clear with a landlord. The TV's power cord never goes inside the wall or into a raceway shared with signal cables; in-wall jobs get a listed power kit. Pre-1978 buildings get a raceway too whenever a wall cut would disturb more paint than a small repair allows. Compare both in our raceway guide.
