2000s two-story house off US 15-501
The burn test read too hot just above the mantel, so the plate went eight inches higher; studs at 24 inches called for a wider plate.

Pittsboro mixes older houses in the National Register district around the 1881 courthouse with a much larger crop of two-story houses built since 2000. Tymofii, who leads our west Cary crew, handles most visits here, often the same day, and treats a farmhouse brick hearth and a builder's gas chase with equal care.
TV mounting in Pittsboro is flat-rate: $119 up to 60", $129 for 61–85" and from $179 for 86" and larger, plus $40 for each additional TV. Mounts from $39, cables hidden in a raceway for $39 or inside the wall for $69. No travel fee and no surcharge for brick, stone or plaster.
Houses around the courthouse have plaster over lath and tall ceilings. We confirm each stud with a test hole and use a wide mount when needed. Mounts for plaster.
Farmhouses may have plank walls or old framing. We find the framing behind the finish and mount into it. Studs behind plaster.
Deep porches get outdoor-rated TVs with stainless hardware and a sealed cable entry. Outdoor TVs.

U.S. Census Bureau, American Community Survey 2020–2024 5-year estimates: year built, units in structure, tenure.
With a median year built of 2002, most Pittsboro TV walls are drywall over wood studs, and in houses built since 2000 about 1 in 5 walls we open are framed 24 inches apart, not 16, so we confirm spacing before choosing a plate. Utility gas heats 52.8% of homes, matching the gas logs in most newer family rooms. Only 1.9% of homes predate 1960, so true plaster is the exception here.
Most of our Pittsboro calls come from houses built in the last twenty-five years, and more and more from Chatham Park, where the NoVi phase alone is planned for 600+ homes from builders such as David Weekley. These open plans usually put a gas fireplace in a drywall-faced chase with tile around the firebox. Tymofii starts every one with a 20-minute burn at full output and reads the surface where the bottom of the TV will sit; when it reads too hot, the screen goes higher on a tilt or beside the chase. Next he checks stud spacing, because 24-inch framing changes which plate spans two studs. The TV's power cord never runs inside the wall: a hidden run uses a listed in-wall power kit fed from the existing outlet. Settle the viewing height first with our height tool.

Pittsboro is one of the few places in our circle where we still mount over wood-burning fireplaces, mostly in farmhouses on the county roads toward Bynum, Moncure and the Rocky River. A wood fire burns hotter and less evenly than gas logs, so Tymofii asks for a real fire rather than a quick reading and mentions that ash can settle in a TV's vents. Brick faces take sleeve anchors, never the mortar joints; a stone face is checked for veneer, which is not structure, so the plate reaches solid masonry or framing behind it. Near the courthouse, houses built before 1978 may carry lead paint, so we drill only anchor and cable holes with a dust shroud and never sand. Mounting a 61- to 85-inch screen is a flat $129. Tymofii tested with a real oak fire, anchored into the brick faces rather than the joints and showed how to dust ash from the vents.

Pre-1978 paint meant a dust shroud and only four anchor holes; the cables went into raceway painted to match.
