Bungalows, fourplexes and three-story townhomes

Historic bungalows and fourplexes have plaster over wood lath, and many were rewired only partly, so an old wall can hide a surprise. We scan for wiring and pipes, drill slowly so the plaster doesn't crack and anchor into the studs behind the lath. When the studs don't line up with where the TV should go, a wide mount bridges them. Mounts for plaster walls.

Three-story townhomes have the living room on the second floor, often with a narrow wall between windows and the stairs. Wood studs, drywall and short cable runs make them straightforward; the challenge is carrying a 75-inch screen up two flights of narrow stairs, which we plan for.

Moving the TV to a new apartment

Montrose renters move often. We take the TV down at the old place ($49), patch-ready holes, and mount it at the new one — same visit if both are close. Raceway cable covers ($39) keep the landlord happy.

Restaurants and bars on Westheimer

Patios and bars want screens that survive humidity and look intentional against brick or shiplap. We mount before opening hours, run cables in slim raceways and use outdoor-rated hardware on covered patios.

What this means for your TV wall

Montrose is mostly apartments and condos: 46.3% of homes sit in buildings of 20 or more units, and 65.4% are rented, so many visits here start with a lease clause or a building manager's email. The other end of the stock is just as real. 21.4% of homes were built before 1960, the bungalows and fourplexes where plaster, lath and patchy rewiring decide whether cables can go inside the wall or belong in a slim cover.

Historic districts: what the rules actually cover

Much of Montrose is protected ground. Avondale East became a City of Houston historic district in 1999 and Avondale West in 2007, and Westmoreland holds the same status, while Courtlandt Place still enforces deed restrictions written in perpetuity. Historic review is about exterior changes, so a TV on a living-room or bedroom wall is ordinary interior work. A screen on a front porch or a street-facing garage wall is different: ask the planning office first, and we mount to whatever they approve. Inside these houses Serhii slows down. He cuts a small test opening before promising a recessed box; in-wall cable concealment is $69, and the power always goes through a listed in-wall kit, never the TV's own cord inside the wall. To see what hides behind the lath, read finding studs in plaster walls.

Condo towers near the Museum District

The newer Montrose is vertical. 5000 Montrose rises 22 stories with 122 units near the Museum District, and One Montrose Place, built in 2004, holds 34 condos on seven floors. Towers like these want paperwork before a contractor walks in: send the management office's rules when you book, and we forward our certificate of insurance and reserve the service elevator inside the hours they allow. Where parking is valet only, tell us where a work van can wait. Condo walls here are often steel studs or concrete, so we usually hang the soundbar from the TV mount and leave one set of holes. A low-profile tilt ($49) helps with glare from tall west windows. The same crew also covers bungalows in Houston Heights, and you can request a same-day time right now.

After a 20-minute burn test, Serhii drilled only four anchor holes in the painted brick, with dust collection.

On-site notes from Montrose jobs

  • Street parking only on most blocks — a spot in front of the house saves the visit twenty minutes.
  • Old fourplexes can share walls with a neighbor — we check which side is the party wall before drilling.
  • Garage apartments behind houses are common; tell us if the TV goes to the back unit.

TV mounting in Montrose, TX: common questions

Can you mount a TV on the plaster walls of my Montrose bungalow?
Yes. We drill slowly, anchor into the studs behind the lath and use a wide mount when the studs are off-center.
Can you move my TV from my old apartment to the new one?
Yes. Taking it down is $49 and mounting it at the new place is the regular rate.
Do you work in three-story townhomes?
All the time. We plan the carry up the stairs and bring a second technician for 86 inches and up.
Is there a charge for parking or travel in Montrose?
No travel fee, ever. Just let us know where we can park.
Do I need historic-district approval for a TV in Avondale or Westmoreland?
Generally not for an interior wall; historic review deals with exterior changes. A porch or street-facing garage TV is different, so check with the city's historic preservation office first, and we mount exactly to the approved plan.
My condo tower wants a certificate of insurance. Can you send one?
Yes. Forward the management office's contractor rules when you book, and we send the certificate ahead of the visit. If the building limits work hours or needs the service elevator reserved, we set the arrival time around that window.
Can the cables go inside the plaster wall of an old bungalow?
Often, yes. A small test hole shows whether the bay behind the lath is clear. If it is, the low-voltage cables go inside and power uses a listed kit; brick or a fire block means paintable raceway instead.

★★★★★

“Old house, plaster walls, and I was worried about cracks. Serhii went slowly, found the studs behind the lath and there is not a single crack. Clean, careful and on time.”
