Evanston packs many wall types into a few square miles: Queen Anne and Tudor houses in the Lakeshore district, Craftsman blocks around Oakton, Prairie houses up north and 14- and 16-story towers along Oak and Maple. Pavlo's North Shore crew knows which walls hide brick, lath or steel and can usually come the same day at a flat price.
TV mounting in Evanston is flat-rate: $119 up to 60", $129 for 61–85" and from $179 for 86" and larger, plus $40 for each additional TV. Mounts from $39, cables hidden in a raceway for $39 or inside the wall for $69. No travel fee and no surcharge for plaster or brick.
Historic houses in the lakefront and Ridge districts have plaster over wood lath, deep oak or walnut trim, and fireplaces with tile or stone surrounds. We drill slowly, anchor into the studs behind the lath and anchor above fireplaces into the chimney breast. Studs behind plaster.
Courtyard apartments near Northwestern have plaster and brick walls between units, and leases that don't allow opening walls. Two small holes into studs and a paintable raceway ($39). Apartment mounting.
Many Evanston living rooms are built around an original fireplace. When the mantel is low we mount above it after a heat check; when it's tall, a pull-down mount ($99) or a side wall. TVs over fireplaces.
New towers downtown have concrete and steel-stud walls. We use the right anchor for each, send a COI and reserve the elevator. Cables go inside steel-stud partitions ($69).
34,095 homes and about 76,340 residents. The age and type of a home decide what is behind the drywall, so we check this before we quote.

U.S. Census Bureau, American Community Survey 2020–2024 5-year estimates: year built, units in structure, tenure.
Half the story is age: Evanston's median home was built in 1953 and 58.7% of units predate 1960, so on most house calls we expect plaster on wood lath or a brick chimney breast and plan test holes first. The other half is height: 31.7% of homes sit in buildings of 20 or more units, where walls are poured concrete or steel studs and the visit starts with the building's insurance and elevator paperwork.
In the Lakeshore Historic District, southeast of downtown, the Italianate and Queen Anne houses went up between the late 1800s and early 1900s, and the city's 1921 zoning kept that area single-family. Expect thick plaster on lath and radiators under the front windows, so we plan the cable route around them. In south central Evanston, the Oakton district's 203 contributing buildings date from 1913 to 1940: Tudor and Craftsman homes where the fireplace is often a brick breast under plaster, the classic spot for a pull-down mantel mount. Northwest Evanston near Central Street brings Prairie houses with low walls and wide window bands; our height tool settles screen height before we drill. Downtown flips the story: E2's two towers and condos like 900 Chicago Avenue mean steel studs, concrete and a building manager to clear first.

Across Chicagoland about 1 in 5 of the fireplaces we mount over burn wood, and Evanston is one of the towns where they cluster, so we treat every mantel here as a working one until you tell us otherwise. Each visit opens with a 20-minute burn at full output and a surface reading at the spot you picked. Many chimney breasts here are tile or marble surrounds with plaster above, so test holes locate the brick and anchors go into the brick faces, never a joint. A deep mantel or a hot reading may mean a pull-down: Pavlo brings a second technician, about three hours on site. For a cool mantel a tilting mount is $49. Stone veneer is not structure, so read our brick and stone guide, then send a fireplace photo through the quote page.

One price list for Chicago and the suburbs — the wall type does not change the price, and neither does the drive. Two-flat plaster, brick party walls and downtown concrete are billed exactly like drywall.
