12 Questions to Ask Before Booking a TV Installation — TV Mount Q installation
In this article
  1. About the price
  2. About the job
  3. About the company
  4. About the day

A ten-minute conversation before the visit saves most of the problems we get called to fix later. Ask these, and listen to how the answers sound — confident and specific is what you want.

About the price

1. "What's the total, including everything for my wall?" Not "starting at." Give the TV size, the wall type and what you want; a flat-rate company answers with a number. See typical prices.

2. "Is there a travel fee, a concrete fee or a parking fee?" You want "no" three times.

3. "What's the price for a second TV in the same visit?" Usually lower — ours start from $40.

About the job

4. "How do you anchor into my wall type?" Concrete: sleeve or wedge anchors. Metal studs: snap-toggles. Wood: lag bolts into two studs. Hesitation = red flag.

5. "Do I need to buy the mount, or do you bring one?" Either is fine; what matters is that it's matched to your TV's VESA and weight. Look yours up in the VESA finder.

6. "How will you hide the cables?" In-wall with a rated power kit (framed walls) or a paintable raceway (concrete, rentals). Never an extension cord inside the wall. Wire concealment options.

7. "How do you decide the height?" A pro asks where you sit. Get ahead with the height calculator.

About the company

8. "Are you insured, and can you send a certificate to my building?" Essential in condos and HOAs.

9. "Who actually comes — and how many people for my TV size?" 85 inches and up needs two.

10. "What's the warranty on the installation?" Ask what it covers and for how long.

About the day

11. "What do I need to prepare?" Clear the area, have the TV unboxed or at least in the room, parking and building access sorted.

12. "What happens if you find something unexpected in the wall?" A pipe, a wire, a missing stud. The right answer: they stop, explain, and offer options before drilling anywhere else.

Tip

Send photos of the wall (wide and close-up), the outlet and the TV box label with the quote request. It removes most surprises.

Frequently asked questions

What information does a TV installer need to quote?
TV size and model, the wall type (drywall, concrete, brick, metal studs), whether you have a mount, whether you want the cables hidden, and any extras like a soundbar. Photos of the wall help.
How long does a TV installation take?
About 45–90 minutes for one TV on drywall with a raceway; longer for in-wall cables, masonry, big screens or several TVs.
Should I be home during the installation?
Yes, at least at the start to confirm the exact position and height, and at the end to check the result.
