Historic houses, brick ranches and lake homes

Old houses near College Street have plaster over lath and tall ceilings. We confirm each stud with a test hole and patch before we leave. Mounts for plaster.

Brick ranches have a fireplace wall in the den. We anchor into solid brick and never the mortar alone. Brick vs. stone veneer.

Kerr Lake houses

Lake houses want TVs on screened porches and decks toward the water: outdoor-rated screens, stainless hardware and a sealed cable entry. Outdoor TVs.

What this means for your TV wall

Half of Oxford's homes were built before 1976, the median year built, and 32.8% went up before 1960, so plaster, painted trim and original fireplace walls are routine for us in Granville County. Homes that old often hide lead paint under newer coats, which shapes how we drill. With 47.1% of homes rented, many visits start with the lease: studs only, removable raceway, and a takedown and patch when the tenant moves on.

Old Oxford: plaster, painted trim and courthouse-era rooms

The Oxford Historic District went on the National Register in 1988 and grew in 2020; it counts 201 contributing buildings, from early 19th-century houses to the 1930s. Greek Revival and Late Victorian rooms here usually mean plaster on wood lath and several coats of old paint. Danylo starts with a test hole inside the plate's footprint, so the patch disappears behind the TV, and he drills only the anchor and cable holes with a dust shroud. North Carolina treats paint disturbance in pre-1978 housing as regulated work, which is another reason we never sand or scrape. Mantels and chimney breasts in these houses are often plastered too, so a fireplace TV adds test holes to find solid brick. Where the plaster is too thick for a recessed box, the cables go into paintable raceway; see our cable concealment options.

New streets off Highway 96 and the next big neighborhoods

LGI Homes planned a 302-lot subdivision on about 130 acres off Highway 96 South, Hatcher Creek offers farmhouse-style homes with a clubhouse and pool, and the planned Oxford Park community would add more than 1,300 houses. In houses built since 2000, about 1 in 5 TV walls we open are framed 24 inches on center, so Danylo carries wide plates that still reach two studs. A TV on the short knee wall of a bonus room gets a tilting mount. Mounting a 65-inch here is $129. Hiding the wires behind drywall with a listed in-wall power kit is $69; the TV's own power cord never goes inside the wall, the kit does that job. Every screen of 75 inches or more brings a second technician from the Durham crew. Henderson shares the same route, and you can request a time for today.

TV mounting in Oxford, NC: common questions

Do you really come to Oxford with no travel fee?
Yes. Oxford is inside our 80-mile circle around Raleigh and costs the same as Raleigh.
Can you mount a TV on plaster in an old Oxford house?
Yes. We find the studs behind the plaster with a small test hole, drill slowly and patch before we leave.
How much does TV mounting cost in Oxford?
$119 up to 60 inches, $129 up to 85 inches and $40 for each additional TV.
Can you mount a TV at our Kerr Lake house?
Yes — inside, or on a covered porch or deck with an outdoor-rated TV and stainless hardware.
How soon can you come to Oxford?
Often the same day; booking a day ahead gives the widest choice of times.
Will mounting a TV in my Oxford rental cost my deposit?
Usually, yes. Nearly half of Oxford homes are rented, and many leases allow studs only. Danylo mounts into studs, runs cables in removable raceway and can come back at move-out to take the TV down and patch the holes.
Do I need city approval in the historic district?
Usually not for the TV itself, because interior mounting changes nothing outside. Exterior work, such as a new cable hole through siding or a dish on the front, may involve preservation review, so check with the City of Oxford first.
Can you mount over the fireplace in my brick ranch?
Yes. We anchor into the brick faces, never a mortar joint. For a gas fireplace we run it at full output for 20 minutes and read the surface where the TV will sit; if it runs too hot, the TV goes higher on a tilt.
