Hyde Park packs three housing eras into a few blocks: 1920s courtyard walk-ups off 55th Street, 1970s condo towers along Hyde Park Boulevard and new towers on 53rd Street, with Kenwood's Victorian mansions just north. Pavlo brings the right anchors for each, often same-day, at a flat price you see before he drills.
TV mounting in Hyde Park is flat-rate: $119 up to 60", $129 for 61–85" and from $179 for 86" and larger, plus $40 for each additional TV. Mounts from $39, cables hidden in a raceway for $39 or inside the wall for $69. No travel fee and no surcharge for plaster or brick.
Vintage apartments and co-ops have thick plaster over wood lath or metal lath, and brick walls between units. On metal lath we confirm each stud with a test hole; on brick, sleeve anchors in solid brick faces. Studs behind plaster.
Kenwood mansions have plaster, paneled libraries and ornate fireplaces. We anchor into the chimney breast or framing above the mantel, check the heat and keep original woodwork untouched. Mounts for plaster walls.
Leases near campus rarely allow opening walls. We mount into studs with two small holes, run cables in a paintable raceway ($39) and can take the TV down at the end of the year ($49). Apartment mounting.
Co-ops often require a certificate of insurance and work during set hours. We send the COI with the booking and follow the building's rules on noise and elevator use.
25,592 homes and about 42,975 residents. The age and type of a home decide what is behind the drywall, so we check this before we quote.

U.S. Census Bureau, American Community Survey 2020–2024 5-year estimates: year built, units in structure, tenure. Census figures for ZIP Code 60615 — there is no separate Census boundary for Hyde Park.
Nearly half of Hyde Park homes, 47.3%, sit in buildings of 20 or more units, and 53.8% were built before 1960. That gives us two kinds of wall: thick plaster with brick party walls in the prewar stock, and concrete or steel studs in the postwar towers. With 67.8% of households renting, most visits here start with a lease or board question, so we plan holes and raceway the next tenant or co-op will accept.
The address usually tells Pavlo what to pack before he leaves.
| Where | Typical TV wall | What we bring |
|---|---|---|
| Courtyard walk-ups, 54th–57th Streets | plaster on lath, brick party wall | test bit, sleeve anchors, raceway |
| 1970s towers on Hyde Park Boulevard | poured concrete | hammer drill, concrete anchors |
| Newer 53rd Street towers (Vue53 era) | metal studs, drywall | toggle anchors into the steel |
| Kenwood houses | plaster, brick chimney breasts | heat meter, masonry anchors |
Hyde Park Condominium at 5401 S Hyde Park Blvd, finished in 1971 with 14 floors, is the kind of building where we expect concrete. Vue53, a 13-story building with 267 units built around 2016, shows the newer pattern. In both, the TV's own power cord never goes inside the wall; for a clean look we fit a listed in-wall power kit or have a licensed electrician add an outlet, and run HDMI separately. Kenwood began as a suburb in the late 1850s and kept that feel after Chicago annexed it in 1889; its historic district holds Shingle-style houses and early Frank Lloyd Wright designs. Inside, the TV often lands on a library or parlor chimney breast. Pavlo starts every fireplace job with a 20-minute burn at full output and reads the surface where the screen will hang; if it runs hot, the TV moves beside the fireplace or onto a pull-down mantel mount. Painted brick in these houses gets anchor holes only, with dust collection, and no sanding. Original oak paneling stays untouched; we mount on the plaster wall beside it instead. A dish, outdoor TV or visible cable on a designated facade may need city review, so ask first. Use the height tool to set eye level, then book a fireplace visit.

The owners burn wood on winter weekends, so the 20-minute burn came first. Anchors went into brick faces, not mortar.

The board wanted a certificate of insurance and the freight elevator booked two days ahead; the soundbar shares the arm.

One price list for Chicago and the suburbs — the wall type does not change the price, and neither does the drive. Two-flat plaster, brick party walls and downtown concrete are billed exactly like drywall.
