Riddle Highlands period-revival house
Plaster hid the whole chimney breast; two test holes inside the bracket footprint found solid brick, and the gas logs passed the burn test.

Aurora holds two kinds of house. Pattern-book Victorians fill the Near Eastside, Tanner and Palace Street districts, and Riddle Highlands keeps its 1920s period revivals; east, Stonebridge and the Route 59 subdivisions spread across the Fox Valley. Artem's DuPage crew mounts on both, often the day you call, at a flat price.
TV mounting in Aurora is flat-rate: $119 up to 60", $129 for 61–85" and from $179 for 86" and larger, plus $40 for each additional TV. Mounts from $39, cables hidden in a raceway for $39 or inside the wall for $69. No travel fee and no surcharge for plaster or brick.
Historic homes on the Near Eastside have plaster over wood lath and irregular studs. We find the studs with test holes, drill slowly and use a wide mount when they don't match the TV. Studs behind plaster.
Fox Valley and Stonebridge homes have drywall on wood studs, family-room fireplaces and basements. Lag bolts upstairs, masonry anchors on the basement's concrete walls. Concrete walls.
Complexes along Route 59 and near the mall limit wall work. Two small holes into the studs and a paintable raceway ($39). Apartment mounting.
Old brick buildings downtown host restaurants, bars and the casino area. We anchor into solid brick and run cables in painted raceways before opening hours.
63,763 homes and about 179,898 residents. The age and type of a home decide what is behind the drywall, so we check this before we quote.

U.S. Census Bureau, American Community Survey 2020–2024 5-year estimates: year built, units in structure, tenure.
Aurora's housing straddles eras. 24.9% of homes predate 1960, which in practice means plaster over lath and brick chimney breasts in the historic districts on both banks, while 32.7% went up in 1980-99, the drywall-and-stud subdivisions east of the river. And 33.6% of households rent, so about 2 in 5 of our Aurora concealment jobs end in paintable raceway rather than an opened wall. Before we quote, we ask what year your house went up.
In Riddle Highlands, the Near Eastside, Tanner and Palace Street, the TV wall is usually plaster on lath, and the chimney breast often hides solid brick under its plaster. Artem drills a test hole inside the bracket's footprint first, so the finished plate hides it later. Anchors go into the brick faces, never the mortar joints, and painted brick is drilled with dust collection only, never sanded. A gas fireplace gets a 20-minute burn at full flame and a surface reading before any TV goes above it. About 1 in 3 of our Aurora fireplace TVs hang over original historic-district brick. Aurora's Certificate of Appropriateness covers changes to a building's exterior appearance, so an interior TV wall needs no Preservation Commission review; a porch TV on a landmark house might. Stonebridge, Oakhurst, Ginger Woods and Palomino Springs bring drywall on wood studs, two-story family rooms and basements framed over poured concrete. Hidden cables are routine here, with one Aurora twist: the city's 2023 electrical amendments delete NM cable, allow MC only in listed cases and bar plastic boxes. Some recessed TV kits ship with plastic boxes, so a new outlet behind the screen means a registered electrician sets a metal one first. Our part is the low-voltage side, HDMI and network through the same stud bay, with power through a listed in-wall kit, because the TV's own cord never goes inside the wall. In-wall concealment is $69, and mounting a 65- or 75-inch set is $129. Naperville next door works under its own rules, so we plan each town separately. More on hidden cables.

The kit on hand had a plastic box, which Aurora bars, so the owner's registered electrician set a metal one first.

Furring was too shallow for lags, so masonry anchors went into the poured wall behind it and the HDMI dropped to the utility room.

One price list for Chicago and the suburbs — the wall type does not change the price, and neither does the drive. Two-flat plaster, brick party walls and downtown concrete are billed exactly like drywall.
