High-rise condos, Third Ward townhomes and Fourth Ward Victorians

Condo and apartment towers have poured-concrete walls and columns, with metal-stud partitions between rooms. Concrete gets a rotary hammer and concrete anchors, steel studs get snap-toggles rated for the TV, and we never drill blind into a structural column. Concrete walls.

Fourth Ward Victorians from the 1880s–1900s have plaster over wood lath and tall ceilings. We confirm every stud with a small test hole and drill slowly so the plaster doesn't crack. Studs behind plaster.

Building paperwork, handled

Uptown towers want a certificate of insurance naming the association, a reserved service elevator and work inside set hours. We send the COI ahead, book the elevator and bring floor protection, so the job fits the building's rules. Condo mounting.

Metal studs and hidden cables

Most Uptown partitions are steel studs with drywall, which hide cables well but won't hold a lag bolt. We use snap-toggles rated well above the TV and run power and HDMI inside the wall ($69) when the building allows it, or a slim painted raceway ($39) when it doesn't. Metal studs.

What this means for your TV wall

Uptown is a tower district: 80.0% of homes sit in buildings of 20 or more units and only 4.2% are detached houses. The median home was built in 2007, and 41.8% went up after 2010, so expect poured-concrete columns, steel-stud partitions and builder outlets placed for a TV that was never planned. With 71.4% of homes rented, most of our Uptown visits start with the lease: what holes the landlord allows, and whether the cables can go inside the wall or need a slim raceway.

Ward by ward: what is behind your wall

The four wards fan out from Trade and Tryon, and each one hands us a different wall.

WardTypical homeWhat we usually drill into
First Wardcraftsman houses, townhouses, mid-rises, towers like Courtsidewood studs in houses, concrete and steel studs in towers
Second Wardthe newest condo towers — The Trust, Radcliffe, Madisonpoured concrete with steel-stud partitions
Third Wardtownhomes and mid-rise rentals near Bank of America Stadiumwood or steel studs, sometimes a concrete party wall
Fourth Wardrestored Victorians and low condo buildingsplaster over lath, or drywall in the newer infill

In the newer mid-rises, such as Circa Uptown near the stadiums, partitions are light-gauge steel over a concrete podium. That is why we bring both kits to every Uptown address: a rotary hammer with concrete sleeve anchors, and snap-toggles for steel. Not sure what you have? Mention it when you send a request. Planning a TV wall in an Uptown unit

Uptown floor plans are tight, so decide three things before Volodymyr arrives. First, the screen size: most of the towers we work in take a 65-inch, and about 1 in 12 of our Uptown TVs is 85 inches or more. Second, the cables: about 3 in 5 of our tower jobs end in a paintable raceway ($39), because concrete cannot be opened, and about 3 in 4 soundbars go on the TV mount so the wall gets one set of holes. Third, the timing: most towers allow contractor work on weekdays only, so a Saturday slot may not be possible.

A TV power cord never runs loose inside a wall. When a steel-stud wall allows a hidden run, we use a listed in-wall power kit that plugs into the outlet below the TV; anything more is the building electrician's job. Moving to South End? Same crew — see the Charlotte service area and our cable concealment page.

Second Ward condo tower

  • 75-inch
  • poured concrete
  • fixed

The only clear wall faced the windows and was solid concrete. We scanned for post-tension cable before drilling, set four sleeve anchors and ran the cables in a paintable raceway the HOA had already approved.

First Ward townhouse

  • 65-inch
  • wood studs + drywall
  • full-motion

The owner wanted to swing the screen toward the kitchen island. We hung it on two studs and hid the HDMI inside the wall with a listed in-wall power kit plugged into the outlet below.

Furnished rental near the stadium

  • 55-inch
  • steel studs + drywall
  • tilting

A short-term rental host needed the bedroom TV up between two guest stays. Snap-toggles rated well above the TV, soundbar on the same mount, and we were out before check-in.

TV mounting in Uptown, NC: common questions

Can you mount a TV on a concrete wall in my Uptown condo?
Yes. We use a rotary hammer and concrete anchors rated well above the TV, and we stay clear of structural columns and any wall your HOA marks as off-limits.
Do you handle the certificate of insurance for my building?
Yes — tell us the building and we send a COI naming the association before the appointment, and we book the service elevator too.
How much does TV mounting cost in Uptown Charlotte?
$119 up to 60 inches and $129 up to 85 inches, with mounts from $39. No travel fee and no parking surcharge.
Can you hide the cables if the wall is concrete?
Inside a concrete wall, no; inside a metal-stud partition, usually yes. On concrete we use a slim paintable raceway that blends into the wall.
Can you come to Uptown the same day?
Often yes — same-day or next-day, seven days a week. The building's contractor hours sometimes decide the slot, and we work around them.
My Uptown apartment is rented. Can I still mount a TV?
Usually yes, with the landlord's okay in writing. North Carolina associations must put rental and alteration rules in the declaration, so we ask you to check it or your lease first. We keep to one set of holes, and when you move out a dismount ($49) includes filling them.
Can you install the TV in a short-term rental between guests?
Yes. Give us your checkout and check-in times and we book inside that window; one TV on steel studs takes under an hour.
Is it a problem if my wall faces the windows?
Not for the mount, but glare can be. Uptown towers are mostly glass, so we often suggest a tilting mount or a spot on the side wall. Our height tool helps you pick the center height before we arrive.
